Romania’s National RRP may go to EC in Brussels

Romania’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP) could be officially filed to the European Commission in Brussels on Monday. Romania’s minister for European investments and projects Cristian Ghinea already made an announcement on the matter last week. The government has been facing some setbacks in the negociations with the Commission as the plan  included investments of more than €41 billion, €11 billion more than the allocation for Romania in the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF). Each component of the plan will include some 30 separate documents. Romania’s RRP will go public on June 2, Mr Ghinea said as the country would be among the few EU Member States to do so. The Commission previously recommended the plans to be sent by the end of April.

Illegal migrants nabbed in south-western Romania

15 illegal migrants were detained by border police in south-western Romania on Monday. The migrants tried to illegally cross Romania’s border from Serbia. The group of 15 people coming from Syria, Somalia and Iraq also included two children of 3 and 4, according to police sources in Drobeta-Turnu Severin, capital of Romania’s south-western Mehedințí county. The Romanian – Serbian border has long ago become a hotspot on the so-called ‘Balkan route’. Despite obstacles that migrants face on their journeys, many are still using the Romanian backdoor to Western Europe. Although the ‘Balkan route’ is nowhere near as busy as it was during Europe’s migrant crisis five years ago, tens of thousands still cross the region every year.

Romania’s Military Reservist Day

Romania celebrates its Military Reservist Day on Monday. The Day of the Military Reservist was established through a government order on May 12, 2010. In a message on the occasion, Romanian President Klaus Iohannis praised the Romanian army as a genuine ambassador of Romania in the world while paying “tribute to the people who chose to serve their country under the flag and defend it unconditionally”. Reservists are an essential component of Navy, Army and Air Force as they make a vital contribution to the defence and security of Romania. Reservists may be deployed on operations which can range from combat through peacekeeping operations as part of allied forces of NATO.
