The European Summer Council takes place in Brussels

The heads of state and government of the EU member states are attending the European Summer Council today and tomorrow in Brussels. Romania is represented by President Klaus Iohannis. Alina Stănuţă has details about the agenda of the summit and the agenda of the President of Romania:
Reporter: The main topics on the agenda of the meeting of heads of state or government are EU coordination in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the process of economic recovery of the Union, the management of migration or the EU’s external relations with Turkey or the Russian Federation. At the same time, President Klaus Iohannis will participate in the Euro Summit in an extended format, which will address the economic challenges for the euro area in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the progress made on banking and capital markets. According to the Presidential Administration, on the sidelines of the European Council, EU leaders will also meet with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, reconfirmed for a new 5-year term at the helm of the organization. Today, around 13:00 Romanian time, the head of state, Klaus Iohannis, will decorate the EPP President, Donald Tusk. Extreme temperatures in the west of the country

It will be two days of extreme temperatures in the west of the country. It is a red heat wave in 7 counties, where heatwave and severe thermal discomfort are announced. These are Caraş-Severin, Timiş, Arad, Bihor, Sălaj, Satu Mare and Maramureş. Meteorologists say the temperatures will be comparable to the absolute records of the period, namely 38-41 degrees. It is also an orange heat code, targeting Oltenia and most of Transilvania. The rest of the country is in yellow heat code. In Mehedinţi these days the temperatures are expected to rise up to 39 degrees. The county is under code orange heatwave warning. The Ministry of Health has asked the health directorates to take all necessary measures to reduce the risks caused by the heat wave

The west of the country will have a very hot part on Thursday and Friday, extreme temperatures and accentuated thermal discomfort. The counties of Caraș Severin, Timiș, Arad, Bihor, Sălaj Satu Mare and Maramureș are targeted by a red code in this regard. Meteorologists say that the temperatures will be comparable to the absolute records of the period, namely 38-41 degrees. It is also an orange heat code that targets Oltenia and most of Transilvania. The rest of the country is in yellow heat code. The Ministry of Health has asked the county and Bucharest public health directorates to take all necessary measures to reduce the medical risks caused by the heat wave and to provide first aid to citizens in case of emergency./aboboc
