The school starts on September 13, in physical format for all students in Romania

The school will start on September 13, in physical format for all students and there will be no delays in providing textbooks, said Romanian Minister of Education Sorin Cîmpeanu. In a press conference, he also talked about anti-COVID testing in schools, about vaccinating teachers and added that he has signals that universities will also start the new academic year with the physical presence of students in classes. „Based on the information I have within my competence, based on the knowledge of the conditions in the schools, in which the sanitary rules were observed more rigorously than in any other places, except the sanitary units, based on the high level of vaccination of educational staff in relation to any other category of staff, based on the actions we have in mind to support the importance and necessity of vaccination, I speak as clearly as possible in favor of opening the school with physical presence for all students, without running scenarios”, said Sorin Cȋmpeanu. On the other hand, Minister Cîmpeanu gave assurances that, this school year, students will have textbooks on time.

Romanian COVID-19 cases updates

The number of new cases of COVID-19 exceeded the 200 threshold for the second day in a row. 271 new cases were reported on Wednesday, after almost 30,000 tests were processed, which means a positive rate of 0.91%. Most new cases are registered in Bucharest – 45. Romanian authorities have also announced another death associated with the new coronavirus variant, and 456 patients are now hospitalized in hospitals, of which 67 at ICU. Vaccination and wearing a protective mask indoors are the main recommendations of the Secretary of State in the Ministry of Interior Raed Arafat, to reduce the risk of coronavirus infection. „We can still protect ourselves. All studies show that if we get vaccinated then the chance of getting a serious form of illness, and the chance of getting hospitalized is much lower, but also the chance of getting infected is much, much lower. The vaccine is the weapon and, of course, the observance of public health measures, and here the basic measure remains to wear a mask in closed spaces „, said Raed Arafat. The President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, said: „Even if it is possible to introduce certain restrictions for unvaccinated people in restaurants, cinemas and so on, this does not solve the problem, it only solves specific problems. The problem could be solved only by mass vaccination. On the other hand, we are already in the second year of the pandemic. I cannot accept measures that lead to discrimination. We cannot defeat the pandemic by discrimination. We can overcome the pandemic by vaccination“.
