Resigning is not an option, Romania’s Senate speaker says

Anca Dragu is not expected to resign as Senate speaker. Ms Dragu made the announcement after Romania’s Constitutional Court published its ruling over a non-confidence motion put forward by her party, USR-Plus, a former junior party in the governing coalition of Prime Minister Florin Cîțu, and the opposition hard-line Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR). Answering the resignation request by PM Cîțu, Ms Dragu told reporters on Wednesday that she wouldn’t do it while pointing out her decision was „driving the PM really mad”. On the contrary, the prime minister should resign, Ms Dragu added. Another motion against PM Cîțu’s government is expected from the opposition Social Democrats, and it is also expected to pass with support from Ms. Dragu’s USR-Plus meaning that PM Florin Cîțu will have to step down.
