Romania will be the first country in the world where the United States will implement the technology of small modular nuclear reactors

Romania will be the first country in the world where the United States will implement the technology of small modular nuclear reactors. President Klaus Iohannis and the special representative of the American president for climate, John Kerry, have decided last night, at the climate summit in Scotland, that by 2028 Romania will include in the national system of producing energy this type of reactors, and a declaration of the White House indicates that this collaboration will lead to creating up to 30,000 jobs in the two countries.

President Klaus Iohannis has explained that this kind of extended collaboration with the United States, on developing technologies, production, operational support services, must be taken to other domains, especially in renewable energy and green mobility. Washington sees in the technology of small modular reactors a solution to decarbonize. An opinion shared by Romania. It’s just that, so far, The European Union hasn’t yet clearly labeled nuclear energy as clean energy and, so, it does not finance it. The European executive has promised a reevaluation of the classification, that will be presented in November. At the climate summit in Glasgow, president Klaus Iohannis said that Romania has reduced its carbon emissions by 64% between 1989 and 2019.

Klaus Iohannis: There is no silver bullet to eliminate climate change, but a set of interconnected measures can help us. We will fight climate change using solutions based on nature, because we will use 57,000 hectares of new forest, financed by the Recovery National Plan, to retain carbon and fight deforestation.

Klaus Iohannis and John Kerry have also established a consolidation of the bilateral cooperation concerning storing energy.
