Recent release of Romania’s unemployment rates

Romania’s unemployment rate hit 5 percent in September, down by 2 points from previous month, according to data released by the country’s National Statistics Insitute (INS) on Wednesday. Estimated number of unemployed in September hit 5 percent, down by 0.2 points from previous month. Men’s unemployment rate was higher than women’s with 0.6 percent. The number of unemployed (aged 15-74 years) estimated for September 2021 was of 416,000 people, decreasing as compared to the previous month (428,000 people). The high level of the unemployment among young people (15-24 years old) of  almost 20 percent (19.5%) still holds attention, INS says.

A ‘history-making’ US – Romania agreement

Romania will be the first country in the world where the United States are expected to promote a technology of small modular nuclear reactors. Romanian President Klaus Iohannis and john Kerry, the US president’s special representative for climate, agreed last night at the  COP 26 summit in Glasgow that Romania should include such reactor in its national energy system by 2028. According to a White Hoiuse statement on Tuesday, “President Biden and President Iohannis were expecteed to announce plans to build a ‘first-of a kind’ small  modular reactor (SMR) plant in Romania in partnership with US NuScale Power, bringing the latest nuclear technology in a critical part of Europe”. “There is no silver bullet to fight climate change, but some interconnected measures may help us. We shall fight climate change through nature-based solutions”, President Iohannis said in a statment.

Romania coronavirus updates

Romania reported 10,196 new Covid-19 ccases on Wednesday with 451 deaths (221 men, 230 women), and another 1,890 under intensive care. In the capital Bucharest,  the number of cases hit 202, according to data issued by the country’s Strategic Communication Group. With the cases reported, the Romanian capital still leads among other regions across the country, followed by eastern county of Buzău with 63 cases, and the southern county of Ilfov with 61 cases. Zero cases were reporteed in the south-western county of Mehedinți.
