As of December 20th, the localization form becomes compulsory for all passengers who enter the country

As of December 20th, all passengers who enter Romania will need to fill out a localization form, and an emergency order has been adopted today by the Government. The documents already used in Europe and will help authorities in epidemiological investigations. Passengers who do not fill in the form will pay a 5,000 lei fine. The form will be helpful in identifying direct contacts when people are diagnosed with COVID-19. As of today, until December 20th, this form will be subject to a pilot project.

Romanian authorities have reacted to the incident involving Senator Diana Soşoacă and a team of an Italian television. Prime minister Nicolae Ciucă said that this event is unacceptable, and the Romanian Government strongly condemns any action of intimidation against journalists or of obstructing the right to free information oof the citizens. Romania is committed to protect press freedom, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs, who specified that Italian authorities have asked the Romanian Embassy in Rome for information regarding the measures taken in this case. On Friday, Senator Diana Şoşoacă called the 112-emergency number and called the Police, during an interview she was giving the Italian television team. The questions being asked sparked a conflict between the two parts. The Senator’s husband is prosecuted for assault. Also, the Italian journalists have filed a complaint against Diana Şoşoacă.

President Klaus Iohannis will attend the Eastern Partnership summit

President Klaus Iohannis will attend the Eastern Partnership summit, which takes place today in Brussels. The meeting will be attended by the leader of the European Council, Charles Michel, and a joint declaration will be adopted, concerning reforms that will take place in the next period.
The sixth summit of the Eastern Partnership will be attended by chiefs of states and governments in member states, as well as leaders of the five partner states – The Republic of Moldova, Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan – and during the reunion, a joint declaration will be reached, concerning the strategic vision of the Eastern Partnership. Developing sustainable economies, digital transformation or creating equitable societies are among the long-term objectives of the policy concerning the Eastern Partnership and they are accompanied by a regional ambitious 2,3-billion-euro worth plan of investments. Romania is represented at the summit by President Klaus Iohannis, who will call for the support of the Union for a strong commitment towards the most ambitious partners, with a strong European orientation, such as the Republic of Moldova.

32 years since the first spark of the Romanian Revolution, in Timişoara

32 years have passed since the first moments of the Romanian Revolution in 1989, in Timişoara. In the City on Bega River there have been taking place several events to commemorate. On December 15th 1989, some tens of people gathered in Maria Square to defend pastor László Tőkés, threatened by the Securitate to be evicted and, one day later, on December 16th, protests would grow, starting the flame of the Revolution.
The commemorative events have started today, at 10 a.m. with the launching of the blog “The Revolution in Timişoara after 30 years”, and, in the evening the poetry festival “Ion Monoran” will begin.
