The Romanian Government is realeasing funds from the Budget Reserve to cover expenses with refugees

In order to support the Ukrainian refugees in Romania, the Government approved on Saturday, March 5, a series of measures to ensure accommodation for the Ukrainian citizens the funds needed to support them during their stay on Romanian territory. The government is releasing around 208 million lei from the Budget Reserve Fund, to add to the budget of the Interior Ministry. The funds will cover the expenses needed to provide spaces and services in the camps for displaced people and to accommodate refugees in the locations established by the county committees for emergency situations. Also, central or local public institutions or authorities or public and private economic operators are given the green light to submit to the county committees for emergency situations ideas of locations for free accommodation for refugees.
The Romanian authorities have so far spent over 50 million lei on refugees, Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca announced at the end of the Ukraine Task Force meeting and the government meeting. He said that next week the government would send the documentation to Brussels in order to settle these expenses. The head of the Romanian government also mentioned that a green corridor would be set up with the Republic of Moldova for the transit of refugees.
