Italy’s Beltrame to acquire a special steel producer in Romania

Italian steelmaker AFV Beltrame, specialised in steel bars and special steels, acquired the Special Steel Plant in the Romanian southern town of Târgovişte. The plant in Târgovişte was involved in insolvency proceedings in February 2013 with executives announcing some 1,200 layoffs. Despite a government emergency order designed to save the company, the plant entered into bancruptcy proceedings. However, the good news came in February this year, when Romania’s Competition Council authorised the acquisition of the Romanian Special Steel Plant by Beltrame. The Italian executives said the move would create more than 1,000 jobs by 2027, Radio Romania reported.

Princess Margaret of Romania to visit a refugee camp at Siret

Princess Margaret of Romania, also President of the Romanian Red Cross, is visiting a refugee camp at Siret, in northern Romania, where thousands of Ukrainian refugees crossed the border to escape the Russian-led war in their country. The visit on Tuesday comes at a time when some 291,000 Ukrainians came to Romania since the conflict began last month, according to statistics, while 209,000 Ukrainians left Romania for other European countries. Almost 3,500 Ukrainians applied for asylum. Princess Margaret is expected to help the Romanian authorities in their efforts to manage the refugee crisis. There has been great support and solidarity in Romania for the  Ukrainian refugees with lots of volunteers evreywhere.

Romania coronavirus updates

Romania reported 5,461 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, which is 2,273 cases more than previous day, with 101 deaths (57 men, 44 women), and 7 people under intensive care, two more than cases recorded a day before). In the capital Bucharest, the number of cases hit 1,464, according to data issued by the country’s Strategic Communication Group (GSC). With its 1,464 cases reported, Bucharest still leads among other regions in the country, followed by western county of Timiș (368 cases), southern county of Ilfov (317 cases), and central county of Brașov (207 cases).
