Romania expected to back suspention of EU’s visa facilitation agreement with Russia

As European defence and foreign ministers gather for informal talks  in the Czech capital Prague on Tuesday, Romanian Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu is expected to support a decision aimed at barring Russian citizens from entering the EU even for tourist purposes. Agenda at the meeting in Prague also includes  an EU response to Russia’s aggression in Ukraine and further support for EU partners such as the neighbouring Republic of Moldova. However, ministers are expected to simply reach a political deal, in principle, to slow the Russian visa process and make it more expensive. Ahead of the gathering, Germany and France argued a visa ban would only alienate the Russian people.
