“A firm commitment of Romania’s governing coalition”

“A firm commitment of Romania’s governing coalition is needed to ensure an increase of Romanians’ minimum wage and pensions starting from Jaunary 1, 2023”. The statement on Thursday was made by Paul Stănescu, Secretary General of the governing left-wing Social Democrat Party (PSD). The move comes  after in a statement last night the country’s Prime Minister Nicolae Ciucă said he called on the Finance Minisrtry to co-operate with bodies in the field in order to allow his Cabinet a first reading of the draft budget in October with an expected parliament vote in November.

Meeting in Bucharest of regional energy ministers

A meeting of regional energy ministers has been  hosted by Romanian Prime Minister Nicolae Ciucă at his government’s headquarters at Victoria Palace in the capital Bucharest on Thursday. Guests included energy officials from Greece, the Republic of Moldova, Bulgaria, Turkey, Ukraine, Hungary, Azerbaijan, and Georgia. The event is seen as a proof of the solidarity of coutries in the region in the current geopolitical context marked by the Russian military offensive in Ukraine. Regional ministers attended the 5th Romanian International Gas Conference on September 21-22. The conference hosted ministers of EU and neighbouring countries as well as representatives of oil and gas companies.

Radio Romania’s Gaudeamus caravan in Iassy

A caravan of Radio Romania’s Gaudeamus Book Fair arrived in the Moldavian city of Iassy where more than 30 publishing houses were expeected to attend the event. Tents were located in the city’s central Union Square (Piața Unirii) with books expected to attract thousands of readers. Iassy publishing houses have a consistent presence in the fair which also includes well-known publishing houses such as Humanitas and Polirom. The seventh Gaudeamus edition this year will take place in Iassys Union Square between September 21 – 25. The event occurs just a few days before the start of the academic year and a few days after the start of the school year allowing both students and pupils to select the books they need for their studies, and also titles sought exclusively for the pleasure of reading.
