Raids of Romania’s DIICOT prosecutors in several counties across the country

Prosecutors of DIICOT( Romania’s Directorate for Investigating Organised Crime and Terrorism) along with agents of Romania’s Anti-Terrorist Financing and Money Laundring Service launched raids in the counties of Neamț (eastern Romania), Brașov (central Romania), Ilfov (southern Romania)  and capital Bucharest on Wednesday in a case of money laundring and fraud with particularly serious consequences. Established in Bucharest in January, the group was allegedly involved in a fraud of 2 million euros damaging more than 70 companies all over the country, including state companies along with producers or distributors of various goods.

Wave of retirements among Romanian judges following public debates against special pensions

63 judges in Romania submitted retirement requests expected to come under debate at the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM/SCM) on Thursday. CSM already approved retirement requests of seven prosecutors. They include, Adina Florea, former prosecutor of a special department, and Felix Bănilă, former head of the DIICOT, among others. The wave of retirement requests comes after public debates concerning an alleged abrogation of special pensions.

INS figures of Romania’s industrial inflation

In September 2022, industrial production prices in Romania (both on domestic and foreign markets) were down 1 prcent from August 2022. Industrial production prices increased by 46.7 percent in September 2022. Higher prices of more than 163 percent were recorded in energy production and distribution while the mining industry recorded a 79 percent high, and a manufacturing industry high of almost 21 percent. A further price rise is expected, according to INS (Romania’s National Institute of Statistics).
