President Klaus Iohannis is attending the fourth Summit of the Council of Europe in Reykjavik, Iceland, on Tuesday and Wednesday. The meeting takes place in the context of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, and the Council of Europe is among the first international institutions to react by excluding the Russian Federation from among the member states, the Presidential Administration states. For Romania, participation in the summit has a special significance, as this year marks 30 years since our country joined this organization. President Klaus Iohannis will be present at several events during the meeting in Iceland, at the end of which the Reykjavik declaration will be adopted. The establishment of the international register of damages caused by Russian aggression will also be announced, in which Romania will participate as a founding state.

Electric cars are gaining more ground in Romania

Electric cars are gaining more and more ground in Romania. According to data from the Association of Automobile Manufacturers and Importers, the market share of environmentally friendly cars has reached 20%, while registrations in this segment have increased by almost 30% compared to the same period in 2022. In the top five best-selling cars 100 % electric is Dacia Spring, with an increase of 28%, followed by Renault Megane, Tesla Model Y or Volkswagen e-up!. On a general level, in Romania, new car registrations increased in the first four months of this year by 25% – the top is led by Dacia, Renault and Ford, with gasoline engines.

Several citizens from Nepal and Bangladesh were caught while trying to illegally cross the border into Serbia

18 Asian citizens were detected by the border police in Timiș County while trying to illegally cross the border into Serbia. 13 of them are Nepalese and had valid residence permits in Romania. They wanted to reach Greece, the other five are from Bangladesh and had work visas on the territory of our country. In all these cases, investigations are currently being carried out for attempted fraudulent crossing of the state border, and upon completion, the necessary legal measures will be taken.
