Draft law allowing Romania – Moldova Republic co-operation deal adopted

Romanian MPs adopted a draft law concerning a military co-operation deal between Romania and the Republic of Moldova on Tuesday. Romanian parliament’s lower house adopted a deal allowing the countries to persue Moldova’s involvement in multinational missions and operations under UN, OSCE, NATO or EU auspices. The legislative project regarding the co-operation agreement between Romania and the Republic of Moldova in the military field was adopted by the Chamber of Deputies, Radio Romania reports. “Romania’’s liberals are fully supporting Moldova’s path to European integration”, according to MP Daniel Gheorghe. However, the country should make a strategic choice while giving up its neutrality as a captive of the ex-Soviet space – one of Moscow’s pressure reasons. The agreement comes at a time when Moldova is trying hard to involve its soldiers in Bosnia-Hertzegovina, EUFOR, and Althea missions as part of the Romanian contingent. The draft will be sent to Romania’s upper house for final vote.
