Romanian Prime Minister pays official visit to London
Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu will pay an official visit to London this week, where he will meet his British counterpart Keir Starmer and the Speaker of the House of Commons Lindsay Hoyle. Discussions will focus on strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the economic field and the fight against tax evasion. The Romanian Prime Minister will also attend the Romania-UK Economic Forum. Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu’s visit to London has been prepared since last week, when the Executive adopted a memorandum updating the convention between the two countries on taxation and prevention of tax evasion, as spokesman Mihai Constantin said. „The new document takes into account the changes made in the Romanian legislation during 2023, as well as those related to the perspective of Romania’s objective of joining the OECD,” Mihai Constantin said. At the Romania-UK Economic Forum, Romania will present itself as the second most energy-independent country in the European Union, with the objective of achieving full energy independence by 2030. Romania offers ideal conditions for green and sustainable investments to combat climate change, and offshore wind farms are the next major development in our country’s energy landscape accordingly. Also important for British investors is the state aid that the Romanian government will grant up to 60% of the investment value to promote Greenfield projects. British investors can also get involved in renewable energy projects.
Military and religious ceremonies on Veterans Day
The Romanian Ministry of National Defence is organizing military and religious ceremonies in Bucharest and in the garrisons where there are military units that have carried out missions in war zones on Monday on the occasion of Veterans’ Day. In the capital, a ceremony will be held at the Heroes’ Monument in Tineretului Park, where wreaths will be laid and the battle flag will be presented to Land Component Command ‚General Alexandru Cernat’. November 11 was chosen for its symbolism: on November 11, 1918 the armistice between the Entente Powers and Germany came into force, ending the First World War and creating the conditions for the Great Union in our country. The significance of this day for the Romanian Army is also linked to the fact that on November 11, 2003, Second Lieutenant Iosif Silviu Fogaras, the first Romanian soldier to die in the Afghan theater of operations, fell in the line of duty.
