Romania’s unemployment rate down at 5.2 percent: INS
Romania’’s unemployment rate was down at 5.2 percent, according to data issued by the country’s National Statistics Institute on Thursday. The figure is down by 0.1 percent as compared to previous numbers in December 2024. The figures are also down when compared to similar numbers in November last year, and similar figures a year before. However, unemployment rate amomg young people remains high, at 25 percent, Radio Romaania reported quoting INS data.
People in Romania’s eastern county of Tulcea on high alert
A high alert was reported for a second night in Romania’s south-eastern Tulcea county on Wednesday amid the war in Ukraine. Systems of Romania’s Defence Minisrtry monitoring the area detected targets on the Chilia arm of the Danube on Wednesday night. The country’s General Inspectorate for Emergencies sent warning messages to locals in the north of the county. Similar messages were sent to people in the same area following renewed Russian attacks on Ukraine’s port infrastructure during the night between Tuesday and Wednesday.
Romania’s draft budget expected soon
Romania’s 2025 draft budget will soon come to and end with figures expected allowing the government to pass the project on Saturday with a parliament vote expected next week, Romania’s Finance Minister Tánczos Barna said in a statement on Thursday. It will be a “frugal budget” that carefully considers spending, the minister warned. Budget of the Presindential Aministration will be reduced by 10% while Romanian parliament’s lower and upper houses will see cuts of 9, and 5 percent respectively. On the other hand, some ministries will see a rise in their budgets with Health Ministry at 50 percent, Environment Ministry at 51 percent, Education Ministry at 10 percent, and the country’s Transport Ministry at 20 percent. Such funds would encourge further investments in highways, emergency hospitals, water and sewage systems and selective collection centers. Wages and pensions will preserve the level of November 2024.
