Romanian heroes who fell in the line of duty are commemorated today – it’s Land Forces Day. Military and religious ceremonies are being held across the country at monuments dedicated to them, and in the capital, the events began in Carol Park, at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Interim President Ilie Bolojan thanked the Romanian military for the way they carry out their missions alongside allies and emphasized that we are going through a complicated period generated by the war in Ukraine, which affects regional land security.
Ilie Bolojan: The Land Forces, together with the other forces of the Romanian Army and alongside our allies, have a decisive role in deterring and defending the eastern flank.
For this, in addition to the programs for equipping the Romanian Army with combat means carried out to date, it is necessary to continue the process of modernizing the Romanian Army by gradually increasing the defense budget and acquiring state-of-the-art military equipment, by strengthening the national defense industry and by increasing the level of training.
Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu also said that he appreciates the way the military fulfills their missions and represents the country in numerous international activities, in NATO and European Union operations, in the Western Balkans and in Africa.
Marcel Ciolacu : We are obliged to continue and intensify our efforts to face current risks and challenges. Therefore, the commitment to allocate over 2% of the Gross Domestic Product to defense remains essential.
The Minister of Defense, Angel Tîlvăr, was also present at the ceremony in Carol Park, along with other dignitaries and heads of the Romanian Army.

The pyrotechnicians called to the scene announced that the ammunition item was in perfect working order and could explode at any touch. The projectile was taken to the military polygon in Copălău to be destroyed. Metal objects that resemble projectiles, grenades, bombs, cartridges or other elements of this kind are very dangerous, and specialists draw attention to the fact that they should not be touched, hit or picked up.
