Romania’s far right AUR motion against Labour Minister
A simple motion put forward by Romania’s far-right AUR party against Labour Minister Simona Bucura – Oprescu is under debate in Romanian Parliament’s lower house on Monday. MPs of the far-right Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) are calling for explanations about pension freeze starting this year with deepening inequities among Romanians. The document also refers to irregularities related to pensions of army officers. Romanians working a lifetime end up recovering only a third of their contributions while Romania is still the last among EU countries in terms of life expectancy and average pensions. A vote on the document is expected on Monday with Minister Simona Bucura – Oprescu also expected to attend.
Romanian magistrates pensions under debate in parliament’s upper house
A draft law on magistrates’ pensions comes under debate in Romanian Parliament’s upper house on Monday following its approval in the Chamber of Deputies, the parliament’s lower house. The Permanent Bureau of the Senate established an accelerated agenda leading to a final vote on the draft law put forward by Romania’s governing coalition. The Senate’s labour committee was expected to prepare a report coming under debate in the afternoon. According to the draft, magistrates’ pensions would include 80 percent of average gross monthly allowances and bonuses received in the last 48 months of activity withtout taking into account other incomes resulting from bonuses. Retirement age of magistrates is also expected to change. And more, ”the retirement age for magistrates is established at 65 starting from January 1, 2026, and not until 2045”, Labour Committee Chairman Adrian Solomon of the governing center-left Social Democrat Party (PSD) told Radio Romania.
Four Ukrainians saved by Romanian mountain rescuers
Four Ukrainians crossing the border into Romania through the north-western Mountains of Maramureș asked for help as they were recovered by Romanian mountain rescuers on Sunday night to Monday morning before being handed over to Romanian authorities. The four were saved following a six hour-search and rescue operation, according to sources of Salvamont Maramureș. Romanian mountain rescuers and border police from Valea Vișeului and Poienile de sub Munte – two villages bordering Ukraine – were also involved in the operation.
