This handout image taken by the European Space Agency (ESA) captured by the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellite shows a view of Iran's Kharg Island, which hosts the countrys main crude export terminal and is responsible for the overwhelming majority of its oil shipments to the world, about 30 kilometres south of the mainland in the north of the Gulf, on March 7, 2026. The US and Israel have previously treaded carefully around the island in the conflict, but an Axios report over the weekend cited Trump administration officials saying capturing Kharg was on the table. The island handles roughly 90 percent of Iran's crude exports, according to a JP Morgan note released on March 8. (Photo by EUROPEAN SPACE AGENCY / AFP)
