MPs could lose immunity easier after a bill under debate

The Romanian MPs could lose immunity easier after a bill under debate in the legislative  and which was  approved yesterday by the Superior Council of Magistracy. The parliamentarian  immunity should be reconsidered  and should not  block the judicial proceedings. SCM’s decision comes after several Liberal MPs  proposed new rules for the  detention, arrest or search of a current member or former member of the Parliament and the Government. These include shortening the time, limiting legislative powers for examining evidence and opened a public vote in both the Judiciary Committee and in plenary.

Two people have been remanded, and two placed under house arrest in the case of illegal restitution

Two people have been remanded, and two placed under house arrest in the case of illegal restitution of  tens of thousands of hectares of land. The  Supreme Court decision is not final and can be appealed.  Also the request by the prosecutors of the National Anticorruption Directorate  to remand two  judges of the Covasna Court accused of corruption will be examined. The  PSD lawmakers Viorel Hrebenciuc,  Ilie Sarbu and Ion Adam, as well as the Director of Romsilva, Adam Crăciunescu are prosecuted in the same file. According to the prosecutors, Prince Paul and Princess Lia are also be involved in this case. The damage estimated in this file is over 300 million euros.

Ministry of European Funds has launched for public debate the ‘Romania Start-up” initiative

The Ministry of European Funds has launched today, in public debates, the ‘Romania Start-up’ initiative. „This will be implemented through two calls for proposals for strategic projects under the ‘Human Resources Development’ Operational Program. The initiative aims to support entrepreneurship among young people aged over 16 years to start a business on their own.

A new ferry line between Constanta-Batumi-Iliciovsk

A ferry line linking the ports of Constanta, Batumi (Georgia) and Iliciovsk (Ukraine) was opened  officially yesterday. The Romanian Under Secretary of State for Transport, Iulian Matache, said  that was a route of particular interest for the countries in the Caucasus and Central Asia, and Romania was thus able to become a gateway for goods from those countries. Opening of the ferry line will be of particular importance in relation to the Silk Road  and  the relationships  we have between the Ministry of Transport of Romania, and the Ministries of Transport from Georgia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, said the Minister.

The third edition of  „LinguaFest”

The third edition of  „LinguaFest” event ,organized by the European Commission Representation in Romania, starts today in Bucharest.  It  concludes the series of events dedicated to the European Day of Languages. The  „European Language Certificate” prize for creative and innovative projects in teaching and learning foreign languages will be awarded. A short  film about „Why Romania?” documentary will be shown – or why people from the UK, Russia, Holland and other countries have chosen to learn Romanian and settle in this country.
