The Romanian Red Cross prepares volunteers for the Ukrainian refugee camps

The Romanian Red Cross trains young volunteers for humanitarian actions in order to support Ukrainian refugees fleeing the war and arriving in Romania. A first step was a partnership agreement between the Romanian Red Cross and the University of Oradea, through which students are prepared to get involved in the activity of refugee camps that could be organized later in Romania. Marius Păcală, the director of the Bihor Branch of the Romanian Red Cross spoke on Radio Cluj about the targets of this partnership: „We are the only non-governmental organization that has the possibility, and we have the obligation to intervene in cases of disasters, calamities, armed conflicts, in line with the international humanitarian law, based on which 146 years ago the Red Cross was established in Romania. The Red Cross’s main human resources are volunteers. Currently, in Bihor County over 90 people are volunteers. We have to work with volunteers at border crossings – because colleagues from Satu Mare or Maramureș, unfortunately, can no longer cope with the large oncoming of refugees crossing over, who are in need of humanitarian support. When the refugee camps are installed, we will intervene with the volunteers.”/mbaciu
