UKRAINE

A team of inspectors with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is heading towards the nuclear power plant in Zaporizhzhia, southern Ukraine. ‘Now we are moving’, says the director of the UN agency, Argentinean Rafael Grossi. The plant, the largest in Europe, was occupied by the Russian army in early March, shortly after the beginning of the invasion. Kyiv has accused Moscow of having deployed hundreds of troops there along with military equipment. Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky, who received the UN experts, has called on the international community to put pressure on Russia to demilitarize the area immediately. The risk of a nuclear catastrophe due to Russian actions is not diminishing for even an hour, Zelensky went on to say.
