Romanian PM on a visit to France

Romanian Prime Minister Ludovic Orban will fly to France on Tuesday (October 27) for an official visit. The two-day visit will include meetings with his French counterpart Jean Castex and other French high-ranking officials in Paris, the French capital. His agenda also includes talks with officials of the Movement of the Enterprises of France (MEDEF) on economy issues. Mr Orban is also expected tol hold talks with Ángel Gurría, Secretary General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) while also attending a meeting of the OECD Council. The Romanian PM is also expected to meet representatives of the Romanian community in France, according to a goverment press release on Monday.

Romania’s COVID-19 updates

Romania reported 212,494 COVID-19 cases on Monday (October 26), 2,884 more cases than the previous day, according to figures issued by the country’s  Strategic Communication Group (GCS). 151,811 people were cured while other 79 people died, GCS pointed out.  In the last 14 days, most affected areas in Romania included the Alba county (3.75 cases/1,000 people), capital Bucharest (3.51 cases/1,000 people) followed by the counties of Harghita (central Romania), Cluj (north-central Romania), Sălaj (north-western Romania), and Timiș (south-western Romania). However, Romania ranks 13 among EU Member States with COVID-19 cases after Russia, France, Spain, United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, Turkey, Ukraine, Belgium, Holland, the Czech Republic, and Poland.

Singer Corina Chiriac at 71

Romanian singer and actress Corina Chiriac turns 71 on October 26. Born in Romania’s capital Bucharest, Ms Chiriac is also a well-known actress, composer, lyricist, and TV anchor. Corina Chiriac is the daughter of Mircea Chiriac, a Romanian musician and academic, and Elisabeta Chiriac, a piano teacher. She made her debute in a 1970 edition of the Star without a Name (Steaua fără nume) contest for rising newcomers. Her filmography includes action movies such as Sergiu Nicolaescu’s ‘Cu mâinile curate’ (Hands Clean). ‘Aventuri la Marea Neagră‘ (Black Sea Adventures), Roșcovanul (The Red-Headed Boy) before becoming the Romanian-dubbing voice of Walt Disney’s ‘The Little Mermaid’ (1989). A Corina Chiriac one-woman show marked the anniversary edition of the Golden Stag Festival in the central Transylvanian town of Brașov in 2018.
