The positive rate of COVID tests fell below two percent

The positive rate of COVID tests decreased in Romania below 2%. Romanian authorities have announced 618 new cases, given that approximately 31,000 tests have been performed in the last 24 hours; this means a positive rate of 1.9%. There were registered also 61 deaths associated with the new coronavirus, and 663 patients are admitted to ICUs. Over 95% recovered out of the total number of Romanians who became ill from the beginning of the epidemic. So far, over 7 million doses of vaccine have been administered in Romania, and over 4 million people have received at least one dose. The coordinator of the national immunization campaign, Valeriu Gheorghiță, considers that in June the number of vaccinated people will reach 5 million. On the other hand, Prime Minister Florin Cîțu announced that in June the anti-COVID measures would be relaxed again.

Romanian Prime Minister to discuss PNRR with opposition

Romanian Prime Minister Florin Cîţu had a new online discussion on Thursday with the executive vice-president of the European Commission, Margrethe Vestager, regarding the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), and subsequently with the main opposition party, the Social Democratic Party (PSD). On Wednesday, PNRR was analyzed in the government meeting, as Prime Minister Cîţu wanted to make sure that the ministers had done their job well and that the plan would be submitted to the European Commission as soon as possible. „I had a longer discussion with the ministers about PNRR. We are currently in direct talks with the European Commission. I have weekly discussions with the Commission about PNRR and I want to ensure that the ministers do their job on the technical side, as well and that we can submit the program as soon as possible „, said Florin Cîţu. PSD leader Marcel Ciolacu insists that the PNRR must include the best projects on irrigation systems in agriculture, although the European Commission does not agree that projects on agricultural irrigation should be part of the Romanian PNRR. PSD warned that it may not vote for the ratification of the European treaty under which all national recovery plans will be implemented in all European states.

Conservative party AUR to propose a bill on non-discrimination against unvaccinated people

Representatives of the conservative party Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) intend to promote in Parliament a bill to sanction individuals or companies that discriminate against those who have not been vaccinated against COVID. The co-president of AUR, Claudiu Târziu, claims that the measures providing for access based on vaccination in certain public places, in institutions, at shows or at sports competitions are inadmissible. „We know very well that vaccination is a non-compulsory medical act, which you must receive voluntarily. For this reason, we are proposing this bill which provides for a series of sanctions against individuals and legal entities that discriminate against people who have not been vaccinated. We will also oppose the introduction of a so-called vaccination passport which offers certain facilities in the opinion of those who propose it, but which, in fact, curbs the freedoms of those who do not want to be vaccinated „, said Claudiu Târziu./mbaciu
