Romania needs to double its vaccination efforts this summer, as it has only fully vaccinated 30% of its adult population, the European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety Stella Kyriakides has said, before a visit to the county on Friday. The commissioner has warned that the highly transmissible Delta variant of the coronavirus, which is already present in the European Union and is due to circulate at a wide scale this summer is a major risk for unvaccinated people. Stella Kyriakides is due to meet the Romanian Health Minister Ioana Mihaila and will visit a vaccination center in Petresti, in the Dambovita county.

The European Commission has launched an infringement procedure against Romania and other member states, on issues ranging from judiciary, social rights and financial stability. Romania is targeted by four such warnings from the European Commission and has been given two months to introduce in its national legislation the provisions requested by the European Union. The Commission has identified breaches in people’s right to access a lawyer and to communicate with third individuals after being detained based on a European warrant. It has also found shortcomings in the obligation of the state to inform a relevant adult in case of the detention of a minor.

The American helicopter that landed abruptly in the Charles de Gaulle Square in Bucharest has been taken to a nearby air base

The American helicopter that has forced to land in Charles de Gaulle Square in Bucharest on Thursday has been transported to the Otopeni Air Base. The incident is being investigated by a mixed commission of Romanian Air Force and United States Embassy in Bucharest and the judicial investigation is coordinated by the Bucharest’s Military Prosecutor. The helicopter was taking part in preparations for Romania’s Aviation Day due on July the 20th and has reported a technical malfunction which forced it to land in the middle of the city, bringing down two illumination pillars. Authorities have decided to exclude military aircraft from taking part in the Aviation Day parade.
