The delay in creating new border crossing points with Ukraine create traffic jams when entering Romania

The delay in creating new border crossing points with Ukraine create traffic jams when entering Romania through the only crossing point in Siret area.

This morning, the queue of trucks waiting to cross in Romania, from Ucraine, at Vama Siret, which is now the only crossing point in this part of the country, was 4 km long. Ukrainian authorities were preparing two new crossing points, but they were forced to stop the work several times. According to the State Border Service, financial means allocated for building these crossing points have been transferred to the Reserve Fund of the state budget, but the aim is, still, that these two crossing points may be functional by the end of this year. As far as the Romanian part is concerned, Romanian authorities have taken all necessary steps to make the new crossing point operational.
It’s expected that, in the following months, the trucks traffic will increase through Vama Siret, due to the fact that an important share of harvested grains will go to export, and the access to Ukrainian ports is blocked by the Russian army./aionita
