The number of Romanian getting measles is rising

The number of Romanian getting measles is rising and doctors draw attention that the only method of prevention is vaccination. In the last weeks, in our country 800 new cases have been declared. The vaccine is free-of charge but the level of awareness and responsibility in the population need to be higher, says Ioana Stăncel, an expert in public health.
Ioana Stăncel: If we have more and more unvaccinated people and diminish the vaccination rate, the virus reservoir and the vectors that can transmit the virus to people who cannot be vaccinated because of certain counterindications or who may develop severe forms of the disease, the risk is much higher and there is a communitarian responsibility. Given the conditions of our health insurance system, I think we should have a greater individual responsibility towards what is given to us by the state.
Doctor Ioana Stăncel also said that a great risk factor that may drive the rise in cases is migration.

The environment minister Mircea Fechet asked the European Commission to reevaluate the conservation state of the population of brown bear in Europe

The environment minister has asked, in Brussels, to the European Commission, to reevaluate the conservation state of the brown bear population in Europe. Mircea Fechet asked the European officials to find ways to protect the human lives but also insure the wellbeing of the bear population. In his speeches, the Romanian official appreciated that these animals are in favorable conservation state in Romania, registering an actual evolution, but the minister drew attention that in the last 20 years 26 people have been killed in Romania by bears and 274 have been disfigured.
Mircea Fechet: We ask the Commission to apply the conditions of the habitat Directive to reevaluate the conservation state of the ten brown bear populations in Europe and, based on the data obtained, to analyze the imposture of a protective status, as done for the wolves. It is essential to collaborate to reinstate balance and I can assure you that Romania will make available all resources, information and expertise accumulated in managing the biggest and most healthy brown bear population in Europe. Together we can protect human lives while we insure the wellbeing of the brown bear.
I only five years, more that 6,400 emergency calls have been made to inform on attacks on humans. Moreover, compensation offered to cover damage produced between 2017 and 2022 rise to 6,2 million euro, added minister Mircea Fechet.

Romania fell on the 44th place worldwide, according to the latest edition of the Social Progress Index

The quality level for social wellbeing has stagnated last year, after 10 years of constant rise, according to the latest edition of the Social Progress Index. Economic instability, geopolitical tensions and climate change are the main causes of the fall of this index. Romania fell on the 44th place worldwide and is the last country in the European Union. Our country obtained the best results in nutrition and home medical care, personal safety, information and communication. The lower scores of the index concern social inclusion, water and sanitation./aionita
