Events dedicated to the Veterans Day are organized these days by the Ministry of National Defense

Events dedicated to the Veterans Day are organized these days by the Ministry of National Defense in all the large garrisons in the country and at monuments in the Republic of Moldova, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia and the Russian Federation. In Bucharest, George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra will dedicate to veterans today a concert with works by Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven, at the Romanian Athenaeum. On Wednesday, war veterans were honored in Brasov by the 2nd Mountain Troops Brigade „Sarmizegetusa” Brasov, by authorities and political parties. Brigade’s honor guard presented the battle flag. Veterans Day is marked in Romania every year on April 29 in recognition of their merits for defending the independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and interests of Romania. Proposals of European Commissioner Corina Cretu to make cohesion policy more visible and attractive

European Commissioner for Regional Policy Corina Cretu and Employment Commissioner Marianne Thyssen have submitted to the General Affairs Council in Luxembourg several proposals to make Union’s cohesion policy more visible and attractive. One of these aims at launching a broad coalition opened to representatives of local and regional authorities, to private sector and other beneficiaries, such as associations representing the health or education sector. It aims at popularizing the benefits of the cohesion policy through campaigns, exhibitions and debates organized in each country of the European Union. The two officials want to demonstrate that cohesion policy has contributed to job creation, economic development and the change of lives of millions of European citizens. (RADIO ROMANIA reports)

The phenomenon of demographic aging in Romania has increased in the last year

The phenomenon of demographic aging in Romania has increased in the last year, according to data published by the National Institute of Statistics. On January 1st 2017, the elderly population aged 65 and over has surpassed with nearly 270,000 people the young one, aged up to 14 years. Practically, if at the beginning of last year there were, on average, 100 young people at nearly 106 elderly people after one year there were more than 108 elderly people. Consequently, the average age of the population has increased too with a few months, being slightly over 41 years. (RADIO ROMANIA reports)
