Prime Minister Victor Ponta announced that he will remain in office and claims that he is innocent. The head of the government also said that his prosecution by the National Anticorruption Directorate aims at changing the government and the current parliamentary majority. The leader of the Social Democratic Party explained why he considers that he must lead the government further. „It is a difficult time for me, personally and politically”, said Romanian Prime Minister, „but I got over many moments like this and I will go further because I have a duty of responsibility that I intend to pursue in accordance with the mandate I received following the elections in 2012  and from the Romanian Parliament”. Both Social Democratic Party and the other parties in the ruling coalition have expressed further support for Victor Ponta, considering that he has no reason to resign. (RADIO ROMANIA reports)

President Klaus Iohannis says that attracting foreign investment is a top priority for Romania, but the Romanian capital must be equally supported. The Head of State said, in Blaj, that the authorities should not rely solely on foreign investors’ contribution in research, development and innovation. Prime Minister Victor Ponta’s situation, investigated for tax evasion and money laundering in the Sova file, is the main topic on the agenda of the Social Democratic Party and opposition political meetings. Also today Prime Minister Victor Ponta will learn when the Chamber of Deputies will discuss the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) request for starting prosecution for accusations of conflict of interest. The Liberals have already announced that they do not recognize Victor Ponta’s legitimacy as head of government and that they will no longer be present in Prime Minister’s political actions. Prime Minister Victor Ponta’s situation would be analyzed at Cotroceni, during President Klaus Iohannis meetings with parliamentary parties, originally convened to discuss the country’s new defense strategy.
