For three days in a row, Romania had fewer and fewer COVID-19 diseases

Romania reported less than 100 cases of coronavirus yesterday, a premiere in the last year. However, interest in vaccination is declining, with less than 50,000 people immunized within 24 hours. However, doctors point out that the population must continue to maintain sanitary measures because new strains, such as the Indian or British, are more contagious. Three days in a row, our country has had fewer and fewer COVID-19 diseases, and the green scenario has been maintained in all regions. Yesterday, 89 new cases from just over 10,000 tests were confirmed. Thus, Romania has not had less than a hundred cases since March last year. By comparison, a month ago, the Strategic Communication Group reported more than 1,400 contaminations in a single day, which is 16 times more than yesterday. 14 counties did not have any case of COVID-19, the highest incidence per thousand inhabitants being in Alba and Prahova, 0.29, decreasing compared to the previous day. The downward trend was maintained in Bucharest, where the infection rate reached 0.19 cases per thousand inhabitants. The latest assessment also indicates 63 deaths associated with the new coronavirus, but 47 of them are from last year and since the beginning of this year, introduced in the database at the request of the Ministry of Health, by the DSPs in the country, following checks. 315 patients are now in Intensive Care units. Even though the figures show that the pandemic is decreasing in intensity, the health authorities warn that there is still a community transmission and that the holiday period could contribute to the spread of more contagious mutations. Vaccination is one of the most effective ways to prevent the disease. So far, almost four million Romanians have been completely immunized, with over 450,000 receiving the first dose. One week after the start of the vaccination campaign for 12- to 15-year-olds, 8,500 teens received the Pfizer-approved serum./opopescu

The senators passed the law regulating the operation of 5G high-speed mobile communications networks

The Senate adopted the law on the operation of high-speed 5G mobile communications networks, a law that will be sent the President of Romania for promulgation. According to the bill, communications providers will be able to use, in 5G networks, only technologies and equipment from manufacturers authorized in advance by decision of the Prime Minister, based on the opinion of CSAT. The document will create the framework for the implementation of 5G networks in Romania, in the perspective of the digital transformation of the economy and society. The main goal is to reduce the risks, threats, vulnerabilities to national security and defense of the country and to avoid that these networks fall under the control of states or entities with divergent interests, now or in the future, against those of Romania and the community to which it belongs./opopescu

Fishing in the Danube Delta has resumed

Fishing in the Danube Delta has resumed today. This year, however, in the Delta, outside the prohibition period, recreational fishing for pike, pikeperch, catfish and carp is only allowed in the „catch and release” system. There are also protected areas for living aquatic resources and biological recovery areas in the country, where fishing continues to be banned until the end of the year or, in some cases, June 15-th. The administration of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve has extended until the beginning of next month the validity of the documents based on which commercial fishermen carry out their activity. The extension was decided because the national authorities have not yet approved the fishing quotas for this year. Those are required to complete fishermen’s documents. There are currently about 1,000 commercial fishermen./opopescu
