The government led by Florin Citu has been toppled by a no-confidence motion in Parliament

The Romanian government led by Prime Minister Florin Citu has been removed from power on Tuesday, by a historic margin in the parliament’s vote. Out of 318 members of parliament present, all votes cast were in favor of the censorship motion initiated by the Social Democratic Party. The cabinet has been removed after less than one year in power and a month after the junior partner USR has withdrawn from the government in a dispute with Mr. Citu.

Romania will ask for international assistance in purchasing oxygen concentrators

Romania is to make a request for international support in order to acquire oxygen concentrators and more than 12,000 vials of an immunomodulator used to treat COVID-19 infections. The decision has been approved on Tuesday by the National Committee for Emergency Situations, as hospitals in the country are facing an acute lack of medication needed to treat patients with severe forms of COVID-19. The committee also established that the country should appeal to the European Mechanism for Civil Protection in order to identify ways to support Romania in this difficult time.

Romania has reported record numbers of COVID-19 cases and deaths on Tuesday

Romania has reported more than 15,000 daily COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, out of more than 78,000 tests. This means that the positivation rate has reached 19%. Most new cases are in the capital Bucharest, with more than 2,500, followed by the county of Ilfov, where 600 cases were reported. There were also 252 deaths attributed to COVID-19, a record daily number, since the start of the pandemic. The country has exhausted its Intensive Therapy capacity for COVID-19 patients, with 1.480 people currently admitted to Intensive Care Units. 22 of these patients are minors.
