OECD benefits explained

Romania’s government is expected to host a conference pointing out the benefits of OECD membership. Prime Minister Nicolae Ciucă and OECD Secretary General Mathias Cormann will attend an event on the matter in Bucharest on Thursday. The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is an internatonal organisation including 38 Member states covering some 70 percent of production and trade worldwide. OECD accession candidates include Argentina, Bulgaria,  Peru, Brazil, Croatia and Romania. The event in capital Bucharest is expected to host a dialogue between OECD officials and delegates representing the business environment in the country. The OECD claims it is „at the heart of internationaal co-operation as Member states work with other countries and bodies worldwide to address the pressing policy challenges of our time”.

World Bank mission expected in Romania

A World Bank mission is expected to return to Romania next week when talks will focus on the country’s pension reforms while also assessing the country’s progress in observing the conditions assumed in its National Recovery  and Resilience Plan (NRRP) – an ambitious agenda of reforms and investements aimed at mitigating the effects of the Covid-19 crisis. All reforms and investments have to be completed within a tight timeframe as the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) forsees they have to be completed by August 2026. Romanian Labour Minister Marius Budăi told Radio Romania that reforms and legislation on pensions and wages would be completed on time according to Romanian experts as his ministry carried out all its reforms so far.

People saved by Romanian rescuers in Turkey

Romanian rescuers in Turkey managed to save a 16-year-old boy after almost a day of ceaseless efforts. Romanian teams brought four people out from the rubble since they arrival as thousends of people have been killed and tens of thousands more injured after a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck southern Turkey on Monday, just 30 km. from the Syrian border. The team from Romania carried out two more  search missions during the night. Romania sent two support teams to Turkey including special search-and-rescue personnel, medical doctors and SMURD assistants.
