President Iohannis is taking part in the summit between the European Union and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States

President Klaus Iohannis is in Brussels, where he is attending the third European Union – Community of Latin American and Caribbean States summit. The main purpose of the meeting is to relaunch the partnership between the European Union and this community, in the context of international geopolitical developments, influenced by Russia’s war against Ukraine. According to the Presidential Administration, President Klaus Iohannis will support the importance of cooperation between the two regions, to deal with new global challenges and complex crises faced by both regions. Romania’s active commitment in this sense was reconfirmed in all the meetings that Klaus Iohannis had with his counterparts, during the visits he made to Brazil, Chile and Argentina in April this year. The Romanian head of state will also take part in the round table themed „Countering climate change towards a fair and sustainable transition”.

Romania has fulfilled its objectives for the recent NATO summit, Minister of Defense Angel Tilvar has told Radio Romania. He has underlined that the measures adopted by the North Atlantic Alliance at the meeting in Vilnius mean the preparation of adequate responses to any security threat that would target Romania.
Angel Tilvar: The profile of the Black Sea has increased, as shown by documents adopted by NATO, which was also our intention, then Sweden’s accession to NATO, which was decided at this summit, and, last but not least, from from the point of view of the ministry that I represent I signed three documents: one refers to the fact that we will have an F-16 pilot training base in Romania, then we will have a regional special forces command – a document that we signed together with the Bulgarian partners, and last but not least – the center of excellence related to climate study and the impact of climate change on national security.

The Romanian Leu has gained ground in relation to the European currency

The Romanian national currency has risen in relation to the Euro, which was calculated by the National Bank at 4.94 lei, down 0.20 bani compared to Sunday’s level. The Leu has also strengthened against the US Dollar, which was rated at 4.39 lei and against the Swiss Franc, calculated by the BNR at 5.12 lei.

The heat wave will continue in the coming days

The heat wave and thermal discomfort will persist locally especially in the southern regions of Romania in the coming days, forecasters have announced. A heat wave warning is in effect until Wednesday and in this interval the temperature-humidity index will exceed the critical threshold of 80 units. Ultraviolet radiation is also at a very high level, which means high a risk to human health. That’s why doctors recommend avoiding prolonged exposure in the sun between 10 am and 6 pm.
