A new edition of the Gaudeamus Radio Romania Book Fair is opening in Sibiu

A new edition of the Gaudeamus Radio Romania Book Fair has opened on Friday in Sibiu’s Great Square. 40 publishers are present with a rich offer, discounts and surprises for visitors of all ages. The fair is opened until August 15, from 10 am to 9 pm every day. Apart from classic readings, publishers have promised games, music and educational materials. Nine editorial events are schedulled for the weekend, such as original book launches and thematic conferences on volumes offered for sale at the fair. At the end of this whole „literary feast”, best works will receive awards. This year, the honorary president of the fair is Radu Vancu, a well known Sibian writer and an active figure in the local and national cultural life.

The Romanian Transport Minister is taking part in a meeting on solidarity corridors for the transport of Ukrainian grains

The United States Embassy in Bucharest has announced a meeting on Friday between representatives from several states and the European Commission, on the solidarity lanes for the transport of grains from Ukraine. The talks will be attended by the Romanian Transport Minister Sorin Grindeanu, the American Head of the Office of Sanctions Coordination James O’Brien, the Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Oleksandr Kubrakov, the Director for Innovative and Sustainable Mobility in the European Commission’s department for Mobility and Transport Magda Kopczynska and the Moldovan Agriculture Minister Vladimir Bolea. They will look for solutions to enhance and diversify the alternative routes for the export of Ukrainian grains on rail, road and sea.

High traffic at Romanian borders expected in the upcoming period

The Romanian Border Police expects a significant rise in traffic at Romania’s borders in the following days, especially at the borders with Hungary and Bulgaria. According to a statement, additional control lanes have been set up in all teritorial structures, along with aditional personnel and equipment. Therefore, 4,000 border officers are on duty daily to perform surveillance and control activities at the state border. People going to Bulgaria are currently waiting at the Negru-Vodă Crossing Point around an hour and a half, while at the Nadlac 1 and 2 crossing points to Hungary, the waiting time is roughly one hour.
