Counterfeit footwear discovered by Constantza border police

A huge shipment of suspected counterfeit shoes was discovered in the south-eastern Romanian port of Constantza on Wednesday. The discovery is worth 6.4 million euros, according to Romanian police sources. The China-made shoes were discovered in containers for expected sale in the capital Bucharest stores. Romanian law enforcement officials discovered almost 13,500 pairs of sport shoes as Nike Air and other top athletic shoes – a key target for counterfeiters. The dangers of buying counterfeit products are not always obvious. There are economic impacts, legal implications and health and safety risks important to know before you buy.

Romanian lawmakers are expected to ban the sale of energy drinks and e-cigarettes to minors after descovering how easily children can access such products. Two bills submitted on Tuesday also include provisions allowing educational institutions to take measures against such habits. The project of banning e-cigarettes came following talks with school delegates who put forward their complaints about the issue. E-cigarettes are a disruptive innovation raising new questions for health professionals and policy makers. An increasing prevalence of smoking among middle schoolers from Romanian rural areas, and a high prevalence of using e-cigarettes, is a good reason to implement health education programs targeting both smoking prevention and use of e-cigarettes.
