The project that bans the right to drive for 10 years for drivers caught under the influence of alcohol or drugs has been adopted by the Senate

Ten years without a license for drivers caught under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The measure appears in a draft law adopted yesterday by the Senate, that was introduced to the Deputy Chamber, that will decide in this case. The document also offers more working instruments for the Direction of Investigation of Organized Crime and Terrorism in actions to combat traffic and consumption of alcohol and forbidden substances. The PSD senator Robert Cazanciuc is one of the initiators.
Robert Cazanciuc: This initiative focuses on changing three normative acts. Two of them offer DIICOT instruments to be more efficient in this battle, increases the punishment for trafficking psychoactive substances, finds a more efficient formula for classical drug trafficking and offers the possibility to ban driving for ten years for those who drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs or found under the influence of these substances without causing an accident. Everybody must know: anyone who drives drunk or drugged, even without causing an accident, risks remaining without a license for ten years. This measure might be more effective than others, that focus on deprivation of freedom.

The “Salvador Dali’s universe” exhibition will open in the historic center of the capital

The “Salvador Dali’s Universe” exhibition, that presents, for the first time in Romania, a selection of the creations of the Catalan artist, will open tomorrow, in the historic center of the capital. The exhibition will include 170 works of art that illustrate the genius of Dalí, sculptures, graphic, engravings, lithographies, miniatures in gold, rubies, diamonds, emeralds, sapphires and glass, surrealist pieces of furniture. It is important to interact with the great ones, says Nicuşor Dan, the general mayor of the capital, because education and culture shape the identity.
Nicuşor Dan: A very interesting and complex exhibition on several phases of the evolution of this great artist. I think Bucharest is growing. The fact that we simultaneously have a Dalí exhibition, a Picasso exhibition and a Braun exhibition means a lot for our city. If there is one thing I appreciate about him, that is the courage.
The exhibition at Hanul Gabroveni will remain open until May 2024.

Authorities in Bucharest expect that, by the end of the year, to have a precise schedule concerning Romania joining the Schengen free movement area

Authorities in Bucharest expect that, by the end of the year, a precise schedule to be set regarding Romania joining the Schengen free movement area, with airports in March 2024 and land borders at the end of 2024, under the Hungarian presidency of the European Union Council, said prime minister Marcel Ciolacu Yesterday evening. He said that, along with chancellor Olaf Scholz and the Spanish prime minister Pedro Sánchez, the United States administration got involved to support Romania to obtain a change of attitude from Austria, on the Schengen issue. We still need to be careful, said, on the other hand, the foreign minister Luminiţa Odobescu. She talked about Austria’s conditions in order to accept the partial joining of Romania, one of them being that our country takes some asylum seekers.
Luminiţa Odobescu: These measures are actually part of a greater package on a European level, concerning the pact of delivery and asylum. Part of those measures are already in the present legislation, including those referring to relocating migrants, once they arrive in other states. This is not necessarily Romania’s case in the given situation. Romania has always been a security provider, it had a contribution and has always been one of the main contributors to FRONTEX missions.

The comments come after an announcement, in Vienna, that Austria agrees that Romania and Bulgaria enter the air space of Schengen, on some conditions. The interior minister Gerhard Karner said some progress is needed in the field of the EU external border protection, meaning a threefold increase of the number of police officers. Also, the Commission needs to allocate fonds for the infrastructure of protection on the borders between Bulgaria and Turkey and Romania and Serbia. Also, the Austrian minister asks enhancing the control on the land borders as well Romania and Bulgaria taking asylum seekers, especially Syrian an Afghan ones./aionita
