Romania recorded the highest economic growth rate among European Union member states in the last 20 years

Romania recorded the highest economic growth rate among European Union member states – about 800% in the last 20 years, according to a study by iBan First, one of the leading global payment service providers. The study states that Central and Eastern European countries are seeing higher economic growth than Western countries, and their GDP will increase twice as fast as the Eurozone average in the period from 2023 to 2026. Central and Eastern European countries have some advantages, such as a young, educated, and highly skilled workforce, as well as low labor costs, which are about 30% lower. At the same time, the Central and Eastern European region represents a significant market, with growing purchasing power and a developing middle class, which generates increased demand for Western-branded products, according to the study cited.

There are more than 200.000 foreign citizens living in Romania

More than 200,000 foreigners live in Romania, the General Inspectorate for Immigration has announced, on the occasion of the International Migrants Day around the world, which was marked on Monday. Almost 70% of them come from outside the European Union and the European Economic Area. Since the beginning of the year, specialists in the field of asylum in Romania have included almost 1,500 people in the integration program for foreigners. The International Migrants Day was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 2000, in the context of the very large and growing number of migrants, but also to draw attention to the hardship that these people face in their countries of origin or in host countries.

Romanians living abroad will be able to access consular services online

Romanian citizens living outside the country’s borders will be able to access consular services online, according to a bill passed on Tuesday by the Chamber of Deputies, as a decision-making body. The law envisages an extensive digitization of these services, so that people can receive documents, upon request, either through courier services or in electronic format.
USR MP Ștefan Lorincz, one of the initiators: Only in 2022, there were over one million requests for consular services. In practice, Romanians living abroad have been forced to travel physically over one million times to consulates, sometimes even hundreds of kilometers away. I believe that the time has come to let in the past this practice of traveling hundreds of kilometers to obtain a document at the consulate.
