The UK will continue to increase its military presence and support for Romania, the new ambassador says

The United Kingdom will continue to increase its military presence and support for Romania as an allied state, the new British ambassador to Bucharest, Giles Portman, has said on Tuesday. At his first press conference, in which he also spoke in Romanian, he announced that the Royal Air Force would return to Romania this year for an air policing mission. He stated that the political relationship between Romania and the United Kingdom was very strong and recalled the recent signing of the new strategic partnership between the two countries. Romania and the United Kingdom will work together, especially in three areas: defense and security, as NATO allies, trade and prosperity, and the fight against organized crime, Mr. Portman has added.

Giles Portman: First of all, defense and security, as NATO allies. And we will continue to increase the support of the United Kingdom for Romania, here, on the ground. And together we will also continue to offer strong, moral and practical support to the brave people of Ukraine. I know it’s not easy, but I’m sure this support will continue. And I have to say that I am very grateful for everything Romania has done in this regard and for everything Romania is doing in this regard.
