The Romanian Government could analyze the first budgetary correction in 2020

The Romanian Government could take into account, at today’s meeting, the first budgetary correction in 2020. The Finance Minister, Florin Cîțu, said that most of the money will go to the Ministries of Health and Labor, a billion lei will be paid in addition for medical leave and another 7 billion for unemployment. Companies that can pay their debts to the state are urged to do so in order to support, this way, the economy./opopescu

The agriculture, severely affected by drought

Drought is adding to the problems brought by the new coronavirus in agriculture. In Ialomița County, for example, farmers are looking in vain at the sky, awaiting precipitation. Thousands of hectares in the county cultivated with wheat and barley are already affected, without any chance of salvation. In Sălaj County, residents are also asked not to use water from centralized water supply systems for garden watering. Someș Water Company calls on the population to minimize the use of water for agricultural purposes. The water provider says there is a risk that subscribers at the end of the network will be deprived of the right to have the minimum water needed for washing or drinking, and forecasters are not at all optimistic: precipitation is nowhere near expected for the next period./opopescu

Sending state employees to technical unemployment, an insufficiently well thought out measure – Cartel Alfa Trade Union Confederation

Cartel Alfa Trade Union Confederation believes that the government’s intention to send half of the state employees, by rotation, into technical unemployment would not be a sufficiently well thought out measure. The leader of the Confederation, Bogdan Hossu, told a television station that such a decision would give the impression that half the staff can work in the public administration sector, and this indicates that it will in fact be an austerity measure. In addition, says the union leader, public institutions would not be sufficiently digitized for the remaining employees to adequately address all public needs. Bogdan Hossu asks the Executive to organize a broad debate with the social partners before taking such a decision. His reaction comes after Prime Minister Ludovic Orban announced last night, at a television station, that the government is planning to send some state employees into technical unemployment, by rotation, for half a month. The measure would target those who work in public institutions that are not important in the fight with the new coronavirus./opopescu
