Negotiations continue for the completion of the new government’s governance program

The main three political parties in Romania, PNL, PSD and UDMR holds a new round of negotiations on Tuesday, with the hope that it would be the last before the finalisation of the governing program. It could also be decided whether or not the PNL will accept the solution for the position of prime minister to be taken over by rotation by liberals and social democrats. PNL, PSD and UDMR agreed on some chapters of the governance program regarding the increase of pensions, state allowances, and also investments. The three parties also agreed to keep the single tax rate. However, differences persist in the areas of finance and justice, and regarding the so-called luxury tax. For the moment, the main unknown remains the proposals for the position of prime minister.

The Romanian Parliament adopts a law aimed to protect Romanians working abroad

The Romanian Parliament has regulated the legislative framework for the protection of Romanian citizens working abroad, although some of the Romanian politicians stated that a well-regulated European legislation will be able to fully protect all seasonal workers. Thus, the Romanian employment agencies must ensure the guarantee of the employment contract, and must assure sufficient time for solicitants to study the offers before signing them. The new law also stipulates that during the entire contractual period, the seasonal worker must benefit from medical insurance or a private medical subscription. „Many of the problems of Romanians working abroad could be avoided if there were a greater involvement of the authorities,” said MP Stefan Lőrincz from USR. Another MP, Antonio Andruşceac from AUR suggested that even this law will not be able to sufficiently protect the Romanians who work abroad. “We do not have the possibility to control, even through this draft law, what will be the working conditions in which they will carry out their activity, because once they arrive in the respective countries their contracts turn into contracts on authorized individuals and they are subject to legislation from the countries where they work”, said Antonio Andruşceac. The bill was supported by all parliamentary groups, the Chamber of Deputies being the decision-making body in Romanian Parliament.
