Ursula von der Leyen says that Romania and Bulgaria should be admitted to the Schengen Area without delay

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has appealed for the integration of Romania and Bulgaria in the Schengen Area without delay. In her latest speech on the State of the European Union, the President of the Commission has made an assessment of the four years since her mandate has started. She outlined the challenges that Europeans faced, from Brexit to the COVID pandemic and the war in Ukraine. For the next year as chief of the EU Executive, she has promissed new measures to counter inflation, as well as to reduce bureaucracy, and concrete steps for the expansion of the Union. From her speech, Romanians had expected an answer concerning their country’s accession to Schengen.
Ursula von der Leyen: Allow me to thank in particular Bulgaria and Romania for leading the way – showcasing best practices on both asylum and returns. They have proved it: Bulgaria and Romania are part of our Schengen area. So let us finally bring them in – without any further delay.

The Romanian Foreign Affairs Ministry has issued a travel alert for Greece

The Romanian Foreign Affairs Ministry has informed that there are still some traffic disturbances on some national roads and motorways in Greece, due to flooding and mudslides caused by storm Daniel. Police has restricted traffic in the central region of Thessalia. A statement by the ministry recommends that people search for information on the websites of Greek authorities, as well as those of the Romanian Embassy in Athens and the General Consulate in Thessaloniki.

The Romanian Defense Ministry has announced that new elements of a possible drone have been found in the Tulcea County

The Romanian Ministry of Defense has announced on Wednesday that new elements of a possible drone have been identified in the areas of Nufaru and Victoria in Tulcea county, and investigations are ongoing. Previously, rezidents have signalled the presence of such elements by dialing the emergency number 112. The drone pieces are dispersed on an area of dozens of meters, at an estimated distance of 2 km from Nufaru, on a hill, the commandor of Tulcea Garrison Antonel-Marian Vatamanu has said. People from eight settlements at the Romanian-Ukrainian border have received RO-Alert messages due to Russian drone attacks, at around 1am local time on Wednesday. The attack has inflicted some damages to the infrastructure of the Danube port of Ismail and wounded seven people, according to the governor of Ukraine’s Odesa region.
