Romania’s coal production has dropped by 15% this year

Romania’s coal production was 15% lower in the first eight months of this year, compared to the same period in 2022, according to data published by the National Institute of Statistics. At the same time, during the first eight months of 2023, Romania imported 50% less coal than last year. According to the National Strategy and Forecasting Commission, the country’s coal production, as well as imports, will continue to decline over the next three years as other power generation capacities are becoming operational.

The Vice-President of the European Commission for Values and Transparency Vera Jourova is coming to Bucharest today, on an official visit, during which she will meet President Klaus Iohannis, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu and several ministers. Topics such as the rule of law and judicial reforms, Romania’s objectives within the digital decade and the digitization projects included in the PNRR, artificial intelligence and combating disinformation are on the agenda of the visit. Vera Jourova will also participate in a meeting in the field of digital technology and will visit the European Competence Center for cyber security.

Romania is on the third place, at the European level, in terms of school bullying

Bullying in schools places Romania on the third place, at the European level, according to a report by the World Health Organisation. The number of students who say they were victims of aggressive behavior has almost doubled in the last four years, according to data from the Save the Children Organization. Although there is a law against this type of behavior, the effects are almost nil, because there are not enough school counselors to deal with the respective cases.
