Changes to Romania’s higher education law adopted

Romanian President Klaus Iohannis has signed into law recent changes to the country’s Higher Education Law on Monday. The law stipulates that college students should be informed in advance of tuition fees as they are expected to remain unchanged during study cycle. Romanian colleges were violating for years the rights of students enrolled in fee-based education while current law was supposed to offer a clear guarantee preventing any change in taxes paid during studies. The Romanian Parliament adopted the law earlier this year.

Earthquake in Romania’s eastern region of Vrancea

An earthquake of 3.9 magniitude on Richter Scale has been reported in Romania’s eastern province of Vrancea on Sunday morning, The earthquake occurred at 80 km. depth near the cities of Focșani, Buzău, Sfântu Gheorghe, Bârlad, Bacău and Brarșov, a town in central Romania. The country reported 19 earthquakes of magnitudes between 2.2 and 3.9 on Richter scale since the beginning of April.

Radio Romania presents its new Steinway piano

Radio Romania will present its new Steinway piano at a concert in its Concert Hall on Friday, April 19. Alexei Volodin, a well-known artist, will perform Johannes Brahms’s Piano Concerto no. 1 with Romanian Radio’s National Orchestra conducted by Daniel Raiskin of the Slovak Philarmonic in Bratislava. Steinway & Sons is a German – American piano company founded in 1853 by Heinrich Engelhard Steinweg, a German piano manufacturer. Alexei Volodin is a Russian pianist born in Sankt Petersburg, Russia, and his repertoire includes piano works from Beethoven and Brahms to Rachmaninov and Prokofiev. Daniel Raiskin is also a Russian-born conductor currently music director of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra since 2018/2019.
