Infant mortality in Romania is the highest in the EU

Infant mortality in Romania remains the highest in the EU, and according to statistics, a child under one year dies every 6 hours. It is one of the realities that determined the Association „Save the Children” to make today a new donation of equipment to the Bucharest University Hospital, worth 36 thousand euros. It is about the necessary equipment for newborns with severe pathologies and pregnant women with pathologies associated with pregnancy. The doctor Adriana Dan, the head of the Neonatology Department, within the University Hospital of Bucharest, declares today that, in the conditions in which the medical system is underfunded, these donations are vital:
Adriana Dan: This pandemic has influenced our activity and we hear on TV, every day, about the ATI sections for adults, who no longer have seats. However, few people know that there are few ATI departments for newborns, there are only 22 grade III maternity hospitals in the country. The organization „Save the children” helped us and we are glad that he was with us with equipment, which changed the fate of many children. It is a piece of equipment that we wanted a long time ago, we have been waiting for it for a long time and now, on the eve of the holidays, we consider it a great gift for us and our children.
The total donations made by „Save the Children” to Romanian hospitals exceed one million euros. The money comes from the companies, which redirect 20% of the profit, and the association’s management appeals to the civil society to continue to support this cause. (RADIO ROMANIA NEWS)
