Romania’s Presidency marked 25th anniversary of Universal Children’s Day

Universal Children’s Day is marked on November 20 since 1954 and Romania marks 25 years since it signed the UN Convention. President Klaus Iohannis has invited 120 children today at Cotroceni Palace for the anniversary. The chief of state pointed out the importance of education and the contribution of its youngest beneficiaries for a solid, ambitious and longterm vision on the education system.

Klaus Iohannis: I would like us to come up with a true reform, with profound changes as, unfortunately, the education system in Romania is not suffering from a lack of reform, but from being worn out by its chronic „reformitis” since the Revolution. We’ve had many, we’ve had scores of education ministers and each of them tried to implement a reform or two. Another reform for reform’s sake is not something I wish for. What I wish for is a large, longterm public debate followed by serious changes that can be accounted for and can produce results.
